Emily Shaughnessy is one of the Assistant Directors for the Whitman Career Center, supporting undergraduate students majoring in Accounting, Business Analytics & Supply Chain Management. She is also the career advisor for Marshall House students through the IMPRESS program.

Emily has worked in higher education since 2008, starting in admissions and eventually finding her calling in career advising. She has most recently been with Whitman at Syracuse University since the spring of 2019. As an advisor, she thrives by helping students explore their professional interests, match their skills with what they are passionate about, and connect that with their educational endeavors to support their long-term career goals. She will share with anyone how fulfilling it is to be able to provide guidance and support at this level and watch students blossom into young professionals right before her eyes. It is a joy to be part of this journey, assisting with professional development workshops, advising students one-on-one, and leading exciting and eye-opening career exploration trips for students, to name a few of what the day-to-day entails in her role.

Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication from SUNY New Paltz and a master’s degree in management from Keuka College. She strives to continue to learn and grow, just as the students she supports, and takes advantage of professional development opportunities through the University. She is part of the One Whitman Council that supports and promotes a sense of community and belonging amongst the staff and faculty and in the fall of 2023 joined a University Senate committee focusing on student life to continue to support students in more areas outside of career advising.
