How do I order my cap and gown?

Information on Regalia ordering will be sent out to students via email in the Spring 2027 semester. 

What is the difference between Commencement and Convocation?

Commencement is the University-wide ceremony for all undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates. Syracuse University Chancellor and President, Mike Haynie, formally confers degrees at the Commencement ceremony. 

Convocation is hosted by each individual school and college. Whitman’s convocation honors Whitman students in the Class of 2027. At Whitman convocation, all students will cross the stage to accept their gift.

Students may choose to attend just one or both. Attendance is not required, but encouraged.

How many tickets do I need? What is the ticket price? How do I get tickets?

There is no limit on the number of guests that can attend commencement or convocation ceremonies. Both ceremonies are free of charge for students and guests. You do not need any tickets for either ceremony.

Do I need to RSVP for commencement or convocation?

RSVP is NOT required for Whitman Convocation.

If you plan to attend Commencement the university asks you to register. Registration will open in the Spring 2027 semester.
