What is the difference between Commencement and Convocation?

Commencement is the University-wide ceremony for all undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates. Syracuse University Chancellor and President, Kent Syverud, formally confers degrees at the Commencement ceremony. This ceremony takes place on Sunday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. in the JMA Wireless dome.

Convocation is hosted by each individual school and college. Whitman’s convocation honors Whitman students in the Class of 2026. At Whitman convocation, all students will cross the stage to accept their gift. This ceremony takes place on Saturday, May 9, from 4-6 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome.

How many tickets do I need? What is the ticket price? How do I get tickets?
