Located in the geographic center of New York State, the Syracuse area is a cultural crossroads. Named after the Sicilian city of Siracusa, Syracuse played an important role in the history of the Erie Canal. From the formation of the Iroquois League and creation of the game of lacrosse in the area to possessing the only upside-down traffic light (yes, the green is on top!) on Tipperary Hill where many Irish immigrants first settled, the City of Syracuse will surprise you with all it has to offer.
There are more than 40 golf courses and an equal number of museums and galleries. Take a break at one of our more than 50 scenic parks, or enjoy a batch of buttery salt potatoes as homage to the city's nickname: "The Salt City."
