Rong Li is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management at The Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Li taught at Nankai University and Singapore Management University. Dr. Li received a B.S. in Mathematics from Nankai University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.
Dr. Li’s research interest is Supply Chain Risk Management. She has coedited the first handbook of Integrated Risk Management in Global Supply Chains. Her research works have been published in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM), Production and Operations Management, IIE Transactions, etc. One of her papers was among the top 20 most cited articles of all time (IIE Transactions, as of June 2015); another paper was a finalist for the best paper award in the supply chain and logistics track of ISERC.
Dr. Li has won the M&SOM Meritorious Service Award in 2020, the Whitman's Senior Faculty Research Award in 2024, the Edward Pettinella Associate Professorship in 2022 and 2023, and the Dean's Citation for Research during 2019-2021, the Dean’s Teaching Honor award consecutively when she was teaching at Singapore Management University. She was selected for the Thousand Talents Plan (Tianjin) and the Hundred Young Research Leaders Plan (Nankai University) in 2014.

Her research interest is applying stochastic models and optimization to understand and learn risk impacts for an improved decision-making and develop optimal policies to manage risk using emerging tools and technologies. Her research aims to help managers better face different types of risk (e.g., demand, price, credit, cyber) with available risk management tools and technologies (e.g., inventories, financial derivatives, real-time data, AI, blockchain, internal or platform trading).
