New Graduate Student Information

Welcome to the Whitman School of Management!

Congratulations and welcome—we are thrilled to have you join us on campus! This page is your go-to resource as you prepare for your first semester, and we’ll keep it updated throughout the summer.

As you transition into the Whitman community, there are two main things to get started on: selecting your fall courses and completing your career center onboarding process. You’ll hear from your academic advisor, Gary Cole, with details and reminders throughout the summer via your Syracuse email.

Feel free to reach out to whitgradadvising@syr.edu with any questions.

Career Center Onboarding

The Whitman Career Center is hosting an onboarding course through Blackboard to help you build a strong foundation to achieve your career goals before the semester is underway.

Recruitment for Summer 2027 internship opportunities will begin in the fall semester shortly after you arrive. The career course offers the opportunity to meet your Graduate Career Advisors, explore career paths, create a professional resume, and be prepared to hit the ground running when you join us. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with your fellow incoming classmates. Based on recent trends, it is critical that you follow through with these assignments so that you are prepared!

All incoming graduate students are expected to complete this onboarding course before the fall semester via Blackboard. The MBA & M.S. Career Center Onboarding Course can be found in Blackboard—be on the lookout for an email with course access information and the program launch announcement on Monday, June 1.

Course Registration

New student fall course registration takes place over the summer. Here’s how the process works:

  • June: A webinar will be offered to meet your academic advisor and other Whitman graduate students.
  • Early July: You will receive course registration information from your advisor including a list of required and recommended courses in addition to other pertinent information.
  • Mid-July: A webinar will be offered to help you learn how to use MySlice (the system used to register for your courses).
  • Aug. 3 (10 a.m.): Course registration opens to you.

Registration and Advising Webinars

Your advisor will host a webinar this summer to discuss the process of making your fall course schedule. We encourage all new graduate students to attend this session to feel confident throughout the registration process.  A recording will be posted here within 48 hours after the session.
