Residencies
Immersive and hands-on, residencies give online students valuable in-person experience while they complete their degree. Offered in a focused 2- to 3-day format, these 1-credit courses are open to both online and residential Master’s students and cover market-relevant topics that turn classroom theory into practice.
Build the curriculum that fits you
Residency courses stack to fulfill one of the electives in your program, giving you the freedom to shape your own path. Go deep on a subject you already love or explore something new without committing to a full-term course.
Timely, market-relevant topics
Residency courses focus on the issues shaping business right now, delivered through guest speakers, field trips, simulations, lecture, and group work that reach well beyond the regular curriculum. Recent residencies have given students the chance to:
- Go inside The Business of Sport with alumni leaders in the NHL, NBA and NFL
- Practice negotiation with former Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud
- Learn consulting techniques from Whitman Interim Dean Alex McKelvie while helping a local brewery plan a strategic expansion and new product launch
- Explore global markets in Post-Brexit London, learning from top global strategists, economists and a counsellor from the EU Delegation to the UK
- Use Tableau and Power BI to turn data into compelling stories
- Examine the unique features and challenges of humanitarian supply chains through simulation
Connect with the Syracuse University network
Earning your degree online gives you flexibility and residencies give you the campus experience to go with it. Over a few days in person, you connect directly with faculty, staff, alumni and industry professionals in a setting built for real connection. You are not just hearing from leaders in your field, you are immersed alongside them, bringing your place in the Orange network to life within a global community that opens doors long after graduation.

What our alumni have to say:
“My favorite one [residencies] were the sports and business track. They brought in the commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, speakers talking about NIL deals. To see so many women in sports was really exciting.”
—Victoria Darmody ’25 MBA
“They’ve helped make the experience feel less virtual. Meeting classmates and professors in person really brings the program to life.”
—Melique Williams ’26 MBA
“One of the main factors in my decision was the residencies that the online MBA program offers. There’s something about sitting down and conversing with your professors and classmates that appealed to me, especially since the rest of the program was online. Whitman really rolled out the red carpet for our visits to campus and everyone was so welcoming.”
—Bradley Pokorny ’22 MBA
