Orange Tank Business Pitch Competition

Orange alumni and student entrepreneurs pitched their ventures to accomplished Orange founders and business leaders as they competed for cash prizes.

Syracuse Samplings

Whitman’s Syracuse Samplings event showcased Orange alumni entrepreneurs and locally-founded businesses. There were samples of a selection of food and beverages, including Dinosaur Bar-B-Que sliders and treats from the Chocolate Pizza Company.

Homecoming Alumni Breakfast

Many came to a breakfast that brings together several schools, colleges and units! This was a time to connect with fellow alumni, as well as leaders, students and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Falk College, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Multicultural Advancement, Newhouse School, School of Education, School of Information Studies (iSchool), Syracuse Abroad, Syracuse College of Law, Syracuse University Athletics, Syracuse University Libraries and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. It was the perfect way to start game day on campus.

DiabeTech Wins 2024 Orange Tank Grand Prize

When the judges returned to announce the winners of the 10th Annual Orange Tank Competition, it was Tosin Alabi ’25 MBA who took first place with a cash prize of $25,000 for DiabeTech, an innovative mobile solution for diabetic patients that uses AI analytics to manage foot ulcers. “I am really excited to win the $25,000 cash prize because I know this will help get my product closer to market to help people and their families,” she says. “When I received the check and looked around at some of the people who had been mentoring me, I could not contain my happiness. This award will hopefully help me get this product mass produced soon.” 

Second place ($7,500) was awarded to Angelo Niforatos G’20 (ECS), ’25 MBA, of Niffy Drone Solutions, LLC, which specializes in integrating LLM technology into drone systems, allowing for language control and enhanced autonomous decision making; and third place ($2,500) was awarded to Natasha Brao ’22 (VPA), ’23 M.S., ’24 MBA, for Shooka, a spicy tomato sauce inspired by the Mediterranean Middle Eastern dish shakshuka.

DiabeTech is a healthcare startup developing an innovative mobile solution for managing diabetic foot ulcers. By combining electronic tattoo sensors and AI analytics, DiabeTech will provide real-time monitoring and personalized care recommendations. This technology-driven, patient-centric approach improves health outcomes for diabetic patients while reducing healthcare costs through better preventative care and self-management.

Niffy Drone Solutions LLC. specializes in integrating Large Language Model (LLM) technology into drone systems, allowing for natural language control, and enhanced autonomous decision making. Our drones can process voice or text commands in real-time while providing offline functionality in environments with limited internet connectivity. This AI-driven approach simplifies drone operation and reduces the need for specialized training, making our solutions ideal for critical missions in military, defense, and infrastructure sectors where reliability and ease of use are paramount.

Natasha Brao ’22 (VPA), 23 M.S., ’24 MBA (Shooka) (Third Place Winner)

Shooka is inspired by the classic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern one-pan dish, Shakshuka, which consists of a chunky tomato and pepper sauce with poached eggs, typically enjoyed for brunch. Shooka is just the sauce, so customers can just add eggs or other substitutes for a quick Mediterranean meal. This founder-led, women-owned, small business is centered around creative cultural cooking and is focused on reframing the conversation around exploring cultural foods. We celebrate the mixing and melding of cultures to create new recipes, flavors, and experiences.
