Remarkable 10-Day Journey to Kenya

May 26, 2025

Written by Riley Owens

As our remarkable 10-day journey in Kenya comes to an end, we leave as a fundamentally transformed team, a stark contrast to who we were when we first stepped foot here.

During our exploration of entrepreneurship in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Naivasha, each member of the team underwent profound professional and personal growth. We immersed ourselves in the local business culture, engaged with passionate entrepreneurs, and learned valuable lessons that will resonate far beyond our time here.

Words cannot fully capture the experience of being immersed in the culture of Kenya. Hearing stories from past teams was one thing, but living it firsthand was another. It is pure, raw, and passionate. As our team exited the Nairobi airport on day one, we were eager to learn. Now, as we prepare to leave, I can confidently say we have all learned much more than we ever anticipated. This experience has given us a newfound way to lead and live with intention and heart.

One of the most impactful aspects of our experience has been the emphasis on community and collaboration, which is deeply ingrained in the Kenyan way of life. At every business we visited, we were welcomed with support, warmth, and genuine kindness. The stories of resilience, creativity, and innovation shared by local entrepreneurs showcased their individual journeys and collective spirit that drives their success. Each interaction left us inspired and reminded us of the power of working together to overcome challenges and build a better future.

We explored new partners like EY Nairobi, a global powerhouse whose commitment to going “All In” was evident. We also connected with Nilotika, a woman-owned boutique with a powerful story and an inspiring message to embrace your uniqueness, and love yourself unapologetically. Additionally, we revisited past partners like Anchor Leather, Muthaiga Tea Company, Ubuntu Life, Amani ya Juu, Child Discovery Centre, Grounded, Fleischer Foundation, and Provisions, all of whom emphasize community in business and the importance of prioritizing your values. These businesses prompted our team to reevaluate our way of thinking, doing, and supporting one another. The connections we formed will last and continue as the next team embarks on a similar but unique journey.

As we prepared to depart Kenya, the lesson of community was especially valuable. We are now one united team. We leave together, share these memories together, and are bonded forever. This transformational experience has taught us many small but important lessons while also showcasing how to be better global citizens and future global leaders.

We hope this isn’t goodbye. One day, we want to return to see the people who welcomed us, taught us, and inspired us and to continue learning from them all over again.
