Samsung Innovation Museum, Gyeongbokgung Palace and More

By Adewumi Adepoju ’26

Our second full day in South Korea offered a compelling mix of innovation and tradition, beginning with a visit to the Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon. The sleek, modern building is a fitting home to Samsung’s journey through the history of electronics and digital transformation. As we moved through the exhibits, we were introduced to groundbreaking innovations, from the early days of communication devices to the futuristic possibilities of AI and smart living. It was a powerful reminder of how technological progress can shape societies and redefine everyday life.

We reflected on Samsung’s role not just as a business giant, but as a cultural and technological symbol of Korea’s rise in the global economy. For MBA students like me, the museum wasn’t just a space of historical exhibits, it was a classroom in innovation strategy, market leadership, and R&D excellence.

From innovation to heritage, we transitioned to one of Korea’s most iconic landmarks: Gyeongbokgung Palace. Built in 1395, this majestic structure served as the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty and remains the largest of the Five Grand Palaces. Our guide painted a vivid picture of life during the dynasty as we walked through the palace grounds, each building echoing stories of power, tradition, and resilience.

The highlight of the experience was donning hanbok, traditional Korean attire. Dressed like royalty, we strolled through the courtyards, posed under grand pagodas, and admired the intricate architecture of Gwanghwamun, the palace’s main gates symbolic of the dynasty’s founding spirit. For many of us, this cultural immersion wasn’t just visual, it was deeply emotional, connecting us to the roots of Korea in a personal way.

Today has shown us how Korea’s strength lies in its dual embrace of cutting-edge innovation and deep historical pride. Whether walking through the digital future at Samsung or the royal legacy of Gyeongbokgung, we found ourselves transformed, intellectually, professionally and culturally. As we look ahead to the rest of our immersion, we carry with us a growing appreciation for the dynamism of Korea and the global perspectives it continues to offer.
