Meet Alexa Whitman

Hiya! My name is Alexa Whitman, and I am a sophomore studying finance and management and participating in the Whitman Core Program this semester. It’s been about three months since I arrived in London, and the whole experience has been absolutely amazing. Up until recently, I had mainly stayed in London every weekend, exploring everything I could around me. It’s crazy that after being here for two months, I can still find something new to experience every day. As much as I love traveling and seeing the rest of Europe, London alone has countless things to offer, and I have never been bored. Even three months in, there’s still so much that I haven’t seen.

Outside of the Core, one of my favorite classes that I was lucky enough to be placed in was the Green Britain course, GEO 300. This course has given me the opportunity to earn credits while traveling across the UK. Last weekend, we took a train to Cardiff, Wales, where we focused on devolutionary politics, environmental policies, the coal industry in Wales, and more. We also had the unique opportunity to go down into an old coal mine—how cool!

I love how Syracuse abroad is structured because it allows students to be able to experience living abroad without being in a classroom all week. The classes I am in take place Monday through Wednesday each week, so I have had plenty of time to take advantage of what being abroad has to offer. Three hours for one class period might seem like a lot at first, but trust me, you’ll get used to it, and it’s totally worth it in the end!
