Tour of the British Parliament

By Samantha Alaraj

Cheers from London!

Today, our BUA 474 class had the amazing opportunity to tour the British Parliament! Walking through the historic halls where centuries of decisions have shaped the UK and the world was absolutely surreal. We learned so much about British political history, the structure of the government, and the role Parliament plays in everyday life.

We had the chance to tour different areas of Parliament and got a glimpse into how things operate behind the scenes. Being in such a historic space made everything feel more real and relevant—so different from learning about it in a classroom. It’s one thing to read or hear about government structures, but actually being there helped connect the dots in a more impactful way.

It was fascinating to see how crucial security is at such a significant location. We had to go through security similar to TSA, and we were required to be accompanied at all times, even when leaving the building. This added an extra layer of importance to the experience, helping us truly appreciate the significance of the place.

To top it all off, we ended the visit with a relaxing cup of tea. Sitting together in such a special setting, we got to soak it all in and chat about what we had learned. Experiences like this remind us just how valuable learning outside the classroom can be.

This kind of hands on experience is what makes studying abroad so special. It’s not just about lectures and slideshows; it’s about immersing ourselves in the culture, engaging with the real world, and gaining a deeper understanding of the topics we're passionate about.
