Whitman helped me greatly along the way, from teaching me the knowledge I needed to the tips and tricks for applying for an internship... the school’s resources, particularly the Career Center, were invaluable throughout my internship search. It really helped having people behind me with the knowledge and experience of having done this many times.
For Owen Truppo ’25, choosing the Whitman School of Management was driven by a desire for opportunities that only a larger institution like Syracuse University could provide. Coming from New Jersey, Truppo wanted a school that could offer both personal and professional growth.
"I knew Syracuse had a lot of opportunities that a smaller school would not be able to provide me. At every place I’ve worked, I’ve met someone who has a connection to Syracuse."
Now entering his senior year majoring in accounting and finance, Truppo has capitalized on the countless opportunities that Whitman offers. One of the most impactful experiences came during an accounting project that required researching regulations around leases.
“It was a great real-world example of accounting research, which is not always something you get to do in accounting classes,” he says. This hands-on project not only reinforced his academic knowledge but also prepared him for the real-world challenges he would face during his internship.
Securing an internship with Deloitte’s Audit & Assurance team in New York City was a significant milestone for Truppo. Reflecting on the process, he credits Whitman for playing a crucial role in his success.

At Deloitte, Truppo worked closely with the Audit & Assurance assistant, contributing to the client’s quarterly review. He helped with regulatory paperwork and confirmed various aspects of the client’s 10Q with the firm’s internal records. His solid foundation in Excel, a skill honed throughout Whitman’s curriculum, proved to be a significant advantage.
“Having a solid knowledge of Excel gave me a leg up on working in a real job,” he says.
The supportive environment at Whitman extended beyond academics. Truppo found the faculty and staff to be essential in both his academic and personal growth. "Professors are always more than willing to share their time. This also includes personal items; multiple professors read my cover letters and gave me interview advice ahead of job/internship interviews," he shares.
As he looks forward to starting a full-time position at Deloitte after graduation, Truppo reflects on his time at Whitman with gratitude.
He says, “There’s a lot of opportunities, and if you get yourself involved in a club or job, you will have lots of great connections and opportunities available to you.”
