Does Syracuse University provide Veteran Benefits?
Yes, we do. You will be able to review information on our Financial Aid website or https://veterans.syr.edu.
At Syracuse University, students build an experiential portfolio through internships, consulting, specialized courses, community engagement, and other practical experiences that make them more valuable in the marketplace. After utilizing planning tools offered through the Career Center, students identify gaps in their knowledge, experience, and/or skill set to build a portfolio that will enhance their overall profile. Additionally, students complete a minimum of six experiential elective credits through at least two distinct experiences. These credits are taken within the 18 elective credits that are part of the degree program.
How does your experiential learning differ from other programs?
Students can complete their requirements in a number of ways, including through internships for credit. Course-based experiences are offered in electives versus a capstone or immersion-based experience, which allow students to develop depth of experience in their chosen field. For international students, it gives them opportunities to interact with U.S. businesses alongside their coursework.
Is an internship required?
Completing an internship is not required, but strongly recommended to give you exposure. It is also one of the ways to fulfill a portion of the experiential learning requirement.
Is there internship assistance?
Students are responsible for finding their own internships. The Career Center has resources that can be utilized, such as access to job posting sites like OrangeLink and MBA Focus, as well as to the alumni database. Structured internships, which may include participation in leadership development programs, often lead to offers of full-time employment.
Can I complete an internship during the academic year?
An international student must be in valid F-1 status and have been a full-time student for one academic year (fall and spring semesters) before accepting an internship and participating in Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
It is also recommended that domestic students wait until the completion of their first academic year to begin an internship.
Given the rigorous academic schedule and the intensity of the full-time job search, it is recommended that second-year students limit an internship commitment to between 10-15 hours per week.
Whitman MBA students can participate in special summer programs through SU Abroad that provide the chance to obtain unpaid, short-term internship assignments. Please refer to the SU Abroad website for more information at https://suabroad.syr.edu.

On-Campus Recruiting Opportunities
We have a strong on-campus recruiting program where local and national companies come to recruit students for internships and full-time positions. Here are some of the programs planned to connect you with companies:
Information Sessions
These formal corporate presentations are held to educate you about the company and its recruitment process. Information sessions are typically held in the evenings during the recruitment process.
Office Hours
You can meet with company representatives informally for a one-on-one, 20-minute meeting to provide you with insight into career choices and personal career positioning.
Career Fairs
During the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, you can participate in Whitman-specific career fairs. Each semester, University Career Services also hosts a campus-wide career fair open to all Syracuse students.
On-Campus Recruiting
We encourage corporations to interview students directly on campus each semester. Corporations will meet with you for 30 minutes to determine whether you have the skills needed to be successful in their company. To be considered for interviews, you need to apply to job or internship postings through OrangeLink. If you are selected to be interviewed, you will receive a notification through OrangeLink, and be asked to schedule a meeting.
