New Student Information

 

Welcome to the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University!

We are so glad that you decided to join Syracuse University and are now a part of the Whitman family.

Part of your transition to college life and the Whitman community includes selecting courses for your first semester and some assignments related to the IMPRESS Program. You will receive information from Assistant Dean Lindsay Quilty to your Syracuse email address 1-2 times per month with more details on these items.  All updates will also be available on this webpage.

Whitman academic advisors will be assigned to new students in July.  Until then, we advise using a team-based approach all advisors are available to help!  If you have a question, please contact whitmanadvising@syr.edu.

 

Registration Information:

New student fall course registration takes place over the summer.  All students are sent a survey in May which is used by the academic advisors to determine the most appropriate courses for the fall semester.  Academic advisors enroll students directly in several of their required courses and then the student is responsible for completing their schedule during the week of August 7th (see timeline below).  On July 28th, students received a personalized email detailing the courses they will need to add during self-registration.

 

The advisors are hosted four webinar sessions from August 1- 4th to train students on how to use the MySlice course registration system, but also to answer any questions related to the registration process.  We encourage all students to attend one session.  A recording of the webinar is available here (click to watch).

Registration Timeline:

  • May 15-16: Registration survey sent to @syr.edu email address.  Advising webinar session offered to answer questions related to the course registration survey/process.  A recording is available here.
  • June 30: Registration survey is due
  • July 7-28: Advisors create a partial schedule
  • July 31: Schedule viewable in MySlice
  • August 1-4: Advising zoom webinar sessions offered (register using links above)
  • August 7-11: Students register themselves for 1-2 specific courses to complete the fall schedule (an advisor will share personalized information in advance)

 

Parent Information:
We will host a Zoom webinar specifically for parents/guardians to help answer any Whitman/academic questions that you may have in preparation for your student’s arrival.  The session will be Wednesday, July 26th at 7:30 pm EDT.
