Sebastian
Sebastian A. Tideman is a tenure-track assistant professor in accounting at Syracuse University. His research focuses on analyzing non- and semi-structured reporting data in the intersection of financial accounting, gender, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. More specifically, some of his projects conduct textual analysis of earnings conference calls (e.g., on analysts’ questioning behavior) and corporate sustainability reports. He usually takes an interdisciplinary approach to explore issues in accounting and finance that uses theories from journalism, political science, and psychology research.

His work has been published in leading academic journals such as The Accounting Review, the Strategic Management Journal, and the European Accounting Review.

Sebastian studied at the University of Bremen, Germany (B.Sc.) and the University College Dublin, Ireland (B.Sc.). He obtained his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Bremen, Germany. Before joining Syracuse University, Sebastian was a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at the University of Exeter and Royal Holloway, University of London (both United Kingdom), a Postdoc at the Universities of Oldenburg and Hamburg (both Germany), and a visiting researcher at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia), Kyiv National University of Trade & Economics (Ukraine), Macau University of Science and Technology (Macau/China), Telavi Iakob Gogebashvili State University (Georgia), Grigol Robakidze University (Tbilisi, Georgia), Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), the University of Luxembourg, as well as Syracuse University (United States).
