Whitman School Professor Co-Authors Book Outlining Changes Organizations Must Make to Ensure Long-term Success as Workplaces Adapt to AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the way we work and live with generative AI tools like ChatGPT boasting hundreds of millions of users and companies like Microsoft integrating AI-driven Copilot into collaborative workspaces. While predictions vary, numerous sources suggest that as many as 60% of current jobs around the globe could be significantly modified or transformed by AI by 2030.
The AI-Centered Enterprise: Reshaping Organizations With Context Aware AI argues that such tools are only the first step in the evolution of Context Aware AI that will eventually transform tasks, organizations and marketplaces, urging business leaders to go back to the basics of value creation and think beyond quick wins. The authors—Natarajan Balasubramanian, a professor at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management; Ram Bala, associate professor of AI and analytics at Santa Clara University; and Amit Joshi, a professor at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD)—examine how long-term success with AI requires a broader, more strategic approach.
“Recent technological developments in AI, like RAG, knowledge graphs and agents, have been impressive, but generating economic value from them requires rethinking organizations through the lens of information flows and understanding how AI fits in the broader network of business value creation,” says Balasubramanian.
Using real-world examples and research, the authors show how Context Aware AI can improve how people work together, strengthen communication across organizations and pave the way for a new era of AI-driven business. They present the 3Cs: calibrate, clarify and channelize to help leaders navigate this radical shift across multiple levels of organizations. While similar publications about AI cover the here and the now, this book provides a clear guide to the changes companies need to make to take full advantage of what AI has to offer as it becomes increasingly context aware.
The AI-Centered Enterprise: Reshaping Organizations With Context Aware AI is now available on Amazon in hardcover, paperback or digital formats.
